Karin Janssen is a Dutch visual artist, dividing her time between working and exhibiting in Shanghai, London and the Netherlands and running Karin Janssen Project Space in London. Janssen’s work researches how crude emotions can alter the appearance of the physical body by creating large, seductive drawings that lure us in and then confront us with our own abject inner-self. In her independent exhibition space she curates shows of both emerging and established artists from the UK and abroad.

Karin Janssen Project SpaceNEWS: SHANGHAI
After four years in London it is time for Karin Janssen Project Space to spread its wings and in 2015 we are expanding to China! Based in Shanghai the interaction between London, the Netherlands and Shanghai will become an important part of the project space's practice. The aim of the coming years is to work as a connecting presence between the UK, Europe and Asia. For latest updates see blog. EXHIBITION: CHINESE WHISPERS
6 - 23 November 2014
Chinese Whispers is a collaborative art project between Karin Janssen Project Space in London and Gallery Nasty Alice in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. They invited forty-nine artists, twenty-five living in the Netherlands and twenty-four living in the United Kingdom to play a game of Chinese Whispers. Each artist reacted on the previous artist’s work without knowing what the rest of the series looked like and the project has resulted in a series of interrelated works which are each still highly autonomous. EXHIBITION: GROWTH
Rachel Bullock, Karin Janssen, Gemma Nelson, Angela Smith
25 October - 17 November 2013 GROWTH brings together the work of four artists for whom the process of creating is seamlessly linked to the outcome of their work. They embrace an impulsive, organic process of creating, not afraid to let forms and composition grow intuitively and chaotically, almost letting the work create itself. See more >> Press coverage:
EXHIBITION: RAW SKIN
Eliza Bennett, Antony Crossfield, Chiho Iwase, Karin Janssen, Edith Meijering
12 April - 21 April 2013 Bringing together the work of five contemporary artists RAW SKIN investigates the body in visual arts, but rather than approaching as an observer, viewing it as an object from the outside, the show aims to look at the body as a vehicle for expression of an internal emotional world. With an emphasis on bodily transformation and physical distortion and with confrontational works that encourage a visceral response as well as an intellectual one this exhibition aims to question traditional conceptions of corporeality and our understanding of the body.
